Born into a large Igbo family in Delta State, Tony Elumelu earned a BSc in Economics from Ambrose Alli University and an MSc from the University of Lagos. He then kicked off his career as a humble salesman at Union Bank after NYSC and subsequently became a branch manager at Allstates Bank at the age of 27.
At the age of 34, he took over a failing bank which was later renamed Standard Trust Bank, which he eventually merged with United Bank for Africa (UBA).
In 2005, he led the game-changing acquisition that merged Standard Trust Bank with United Bank for Africa (UBA). Under his watch, UBA exploded into a true pan-African powerhouse operating in over 20 countries, plus locations in the UK, France, the UAE, and the United States of America.
In 2010, he launched the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and pledged $100 million to train, fund, and mentor 10,000 young African entrepreneurs.
Since then, tens of thousands of jobs have been created, and the dreams of young entrepreneurs have been turned into thriving businesses across the African continent.
He has numerous awards to his name, such as the MFR, CON, CFR, and Belgium’s Order of Leopold, and is even on TIME’s 100 most influential people list.

Yet, Tony Elumelu lights up most when talking about his kids and family, and he calls himself a proud dad first.

Tony Elumelu’s Wife
Dr Awele Vivian Elumelu.

Born on 23 June 1970 in Lagos, Vivian attended Queen’s College before earning her MBBS from the University of Benin. She practised medicine—surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, and even emergency work—at Lagos University Teaching Hospital and later at Grantham and District Hospital in the UK.
She met Tony when she was still quite young, and they got married in 1993.
Today, she chairs Avon Healthcare Limited (Nigeria’s top health insurance provider, A.K.A. Avon HMO) and Avon Medical Practice, a growing network of clinics that has treated hundreds of thousands of patients and paid out billions in claims.
She also sits on the Heirs Holdings board, recently became Chair of Transcorp Hotels, and co-founded the Tony Elumelu Foundation with her husband.
In 2023, the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, awarded her the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). She has achieved a lot while raising seven children by her side.
Dr. Elumelu is a brilliant doctor, a sharp executive, and a devoted wife and mom who proves you can have it all when you set your mind to it.
Tony Elumelu Children
Tony and Vivian Elumelu have always kept their seven children (five daughters and twin boys) pretty private with no flashy reality shows here.
They’ve focused on top-tier education, strong values, and letting each kid shine in their own lane.
Here’s what we know about these inspiring young Elumelus:
1. Ogechukwu Tamara-Marie “Oge/Gigi” Elumelu

The trailblazing eldest daughter. Born around late March, Oge went to St Catherine’s Bramley in the UK, then graduated from the London School of Economics with a degree in Politics & Philosophy. She interned at top law firm White & Case, is now studying law at BPP Law School, and recently matriculated for a master’s at the University of Oxford.
Tony Elumelu openly calls her the “role model” for her siblings.
2. Ogochukwu “Ogor/Gogo-lee” Elumelu

The second daughter of the billionaire is a university student living in Nigeria who has a super private life. Tony Elumelu’s sweet “Gogo-lee” posts show how much joy she brings to the family.
3. The Triplet Sisters – Onyinye, Nneka, and Ugo Elumelu

Born on 26 November 2006, these three girls graduated high school in 2025 from St Catherine’s School in the UK, complete with a prize. Nneka is already starting a BSc in Economics at University College London (UCL).
Onyinye and Ugo are uni-bound too, with no open news on where they intend to study or what.
4. The Twin Boys

The twin boys were born around 2015. Their names aren’t public yet, but photos show two adorable, energetic little guys who clearly adore their big sisters and make their dad’s heart melt.
Tony often posts Father’s Day tributes thanking all his kids for making fatherhood the “best feeling in the world.”
These twins are still young, but you just know they’re growing up surrounded by love, ambition, and the same high standards.
