Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has shared the difficult experience he faced before he became an A-list actor in Nigeria. He revealed how he struggled to pay his rent and felt worse after a neighbour rejected his request for a loan.
Arukwe spoke about his experience while discussing how people deal with rejection and the difficulty men face when they need help. He said the average man experiences rejection but often finds it difficult to admit that he fears being rejected.
“The average man is afraid of rejection. We hate to admit it but we are afraid of rejection. It’s an ego thing. So we face rejection everywhere in the world, it stares us in the face every time. We try to toast a lady, she says no and it stares us in the face every time.” 
Uzor Arukwe Opens Up About Asking His Neighbour for Help
Arukwe explained that rejection can feel worse when a person asks a male friend for help and receives a “No”.
“We are always at the point where s no could happen to you. You ask your guy, a male friend, who is supposed to be someone that understands you and feels you. and you ask from him and he says No.”
He added that the person who rejects a request for help may not always do so because they want to. According to him, the person may also be struggling with their own financial situation.
“Most times it’s not because he wants to say no, it’s because he doesn’t really have. He could even be in a worst situation than you are.”

Uzor Arukwe Recalls His Struggle to Pay Rent
Arukwe then shared a personal experience from a period when he struggled to pay his annual rent.
“My year rents starts in January so when everybody is doing detty December, I am calculating. This has been happening since 2013. Every December I’m always calculating, I’m not spending I’m not partying, I’m literary calculating.”
The actor revealed that he once faced a situation did not have enough money to pay his rent. He explained that he thought carefully about how to approach who to approach for help. He claimed he went to his neighbour.
Arukwe eventually called his neighbour and asked if he could give him a loan to help him pay his rent. However, his neighbour rejected the request.
He said the rejection made him feel even worse at a time.
