Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has shared the full story behind his dismissal from telecommunications company Etisalat (now T2). He revealed how a data fraud scheme within his team led to him losing his job.
Speaking on the CreativiTea podcast, Arukwe explained that he headed a specialised tech sales unit known as the Geek Force. The team was responsible for handling promotional data that was meant to be given to customers at no cost.
Instead of distributing the data as intended, some members of the team began selling it and pocketing the money.

How He Became the Fall Guy
According to the award-winning actor, investigators traced the fraudulent transactions to his official login credentials.
“Somebody was using my login to do it, and that’s the truth of the matter,” Arukwe said.
“And then there was a trace. And then because I was technically the head of the group, I had to take the fall.”
He admitted that he was a part of the scheme, but as the leader of the unit, he was held responsible.
A Shock to the Company
Arukwe noted that his exit caused disruption within the organisation because he had built a strong reputation and was regarded as someone with a bright future at the company.
“Mine shook the entire company because it looked like I had a future,” he said. “My career… I was quite celebrated.”
Although he moved on to work in another after being out of job for a whole year, the experience marked a difficult chapter in his life, but it eventually became part of the journey that led him fully into acting.
Today, Uzor Arukwe is one of Nollywood’s recognisable faces, known for his roles in major productions and his recent AMVCA recognition.
