Uche Jombo, a Nigerian actress and director, has shared a hilarious argument she had with her son about football icon Lionel Messi, revealing how their different generations influenced their perceptions of the Argentine player.

According to the actress, the conversation began when her son described  Messi, who won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as the greatest version of the football superstar; however, Uche disagreed, stating that he had not seen Messi at the peak of his career.

Sharing the story, she said:

“So I had an argument with my son. I was telling him that the version of Lionel Messi he says is the greatest of all time is the one he fell in love with during the World Cup. I told him that this wasn’t even Messi’s best version and that he had not seen Messi at his prime.

“He rolled his eyes, so I played the ‘Ankara Messi’ video just to introduce him to the Messi I fell in love with. The boy looked at the video and told me it was AI.

“I told him these young people don’t even understand why some of us love Messi. I suggested that we watch some of his goals and matches from his prime, but he replied, ‘Mummy, you’re glazing Messi. This is just too much glaze. We know he’s the best player, but stop glazing him.'”

While younger fans frequently highlight Messi’s World Cup-winning campaign with Argentina, many long-time admirers believe his best football came during his Barcelona years, when he captivated spectators with his goals, dribbling, and playmaking.

The actress’s experience underlined the generation gap among football fans. Many younger fans first saw Messi in the latter stages of his career, while older fans witnessed his record-breaking exploits for Barcelona and still rate that period as the finest he ever played.
