Students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, have protested over alleged attacks on their hostels. The latest incident reportedly occurred early Monday, September 21, at a female hostel outside the college premises.
Sources alleged that armed attackers stole phones and valuables from students. They also reportedly raped two female students during the incident. One account claimed that one of the victims suffered a serious injury to her finger. Both students were reportedly taken to a hospital in Jalingo for treatment.
The allegations have renewed concerns over security around the institution’s off-campus accommodation. 
Taraba Nursing Students Demand Urgent Security Measures
The protesters reportedly blocked a road near the college while demanding stronger security. They called on the Taraba State Government and security agencies to intervene immediately.
Students also demanded action from the college management before academic activities resume. A students’ union source said the latest incident followed another hostel attack the previous week.
“Last week, students’ hostels were attacked and more than 20 phones were stolen. This morning, two female students were raped, and they are currently in the hospital,” the source added.
The source spoke on condition of anonymity over fears of victimisation.
Students Raise Concerns Over Off-Campus Hostels
The students questioned why they remain in hostels outside the college premises. According to the union source, the college has seven hostels.
However, students reportedly occupy accommodation outside the institution despite available facilities within the premises, Daily Trust reports.
“We have seven hostels, one for males and six for females,” the source said. “But students are all located outside the premises, and there is no adequate security.”
The source said students previously complained about the security situation. The Commissioner for Tertiary Education reportedly visited after the earlier attack and promised stronger measures.

Provost Allegedly Damaged Students’ Phones
The protest reportedly became tense after Provost Dr Dorcas S. Dugule arrived at the scene. Sources alleged that she damaged two students’ phones while they recorded the demonstration. One female student reportedly said she had saved money to buy her damaged iPhone.
Sources also alleged that the provost requested additional security personnel to disperse the protesters. Security operatives were subsequently deployed around the college, according to reports.
However, the allegations against the provost have not been independently established.
Ministry Had Recommended Stronger Security
The latest incident follows an earlier security assessment by the Taraba State Ministry of Tertiary Education. The ministry reportedly said armed men invaded the hostels and stole 33 mobile phones.
Some students also sustained injuries, while three phones and a cutlass were reportedly recovered.
The ministry recommended stronger security and further investigation. It also called for students to move into safer accommodation.
Meanwhile, the college’s provost confirmed she was handling the matter. The students have continued demanding concrete measures to protect them from further attacks.
