Niniola Apata, a Nigerian musician, has released a new tune titled ‘Raining (O Dun Mi)’ in memory of her late spouse, Michael Ndika.
The song expresses how Niniola has felt since Ndika’s death. It marks her first musical release since her husband died in May.
Niniola announced the song on Instagram and described it as a deeply personal homage to her spouse, who also served as her manager.
“Some feelings are too deep for words. So I put them in a song. Some songs are made to entertain,”
“Others are born from moments that change us forever. ‘Raining (O Dun Mi)’ is my deeply personal tribute to a man who was not only my life partner, but an important part of my journey and career.
“But this song is also for everyone who has lost someone they love — for the memories that remain, the empty spaces they leave behind, and the love that never truly goes away.
“Through music, I honour his memory.”

Niniola turns grief into music as she honours late husband Michael Ndika
Her spouse, was Michael Ndika also known as Big Mike, the CEO and Managing Director of Naija Review Ltd, a company that specialises in artist management, A&R, public relations, media and music distribution. He also co-owned an NGO called Adopt-a-Child’s Education.
Niniola and Ndika kept their relationship completely hidden for 13 years, so many people remained unaware that she was married.
At a service of songs held in June, Niniola described him as the pillar behind her success. She said Michael did everything for her, showed her how to be strong, played a major part in her music career and showered her with love.
“Michael did everything for me. He was breathing for me. He loved me so much. And I learnt so much from Michael. He showed me the ropes. I got to meet his friends. Because, naturally, I am a loner. I love being alone.”
The two worked closely behind the scenes from her 2014 breakout hit “Ibadi”, with Ndika handling management, A&R and songwriting for her over the years.
