Burna Boy and Five Nigerian Celebrities Who Converted to Islam

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, the Grammy-winning Afrofusion star popularly known as Burna Boy, is the latest high-profile name to join a growing list of Nigerian celebrities who have converted to Islam.

As Ramadan 2026 continues, a video of the 34-year-old Port Harcourt-born artist reciting Arabic phrases, “Alhamdulillah”, “Masha Allah”, and “Allahu Akbar” went viral. The video brought back conversations about his faith journey and that of other Nigerian stars who have walked the same path.

Burna Boy first disclosed his conversion during a Twitch live session with US streamer PlaqueBoyMax in November 2025. He explained that his conversion came from a relentless search for truth. “I grew up as a Christian, and then I converted to Islam,” he said. “The more I research, the more confused I get.”

Fans have since proposed AbdulKareem (meaning “Servant of the Most Generous”) as his Muslim name. He is not alone. Here are five other Nigerian celebrities who converted to Islam before him.
