A man in Owerri, Imo State, has allegedly pushed his girlfriend’s niece off a storey building after she refused to sleep with him. The incident reportedly happened at Mbonu Ejike, Owerri, while the victim’s aunt was away on a trip, leaving her with her boyfriend.
According to reports circulating online, the suspect allegedly made sexual advances towards the lady, but she turned him down. He reportedly became angry over the rejection and pushed her from the building. The lady sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition at a hospital. Police have detained the suspect as investigations continue.
Imo police confirm suspect’s detention
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident and the suspect’s detention on Monday, November 2. 
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye reportedly said that the was alive but in a coma, contrary to social media reports claiming that she had died.

Okoye said doctors had transferred her to another hospital for better medical attention. He also explained that investigators were taking statements from eyewitnesses and examining the circumstances surrounding the fall.

According to Okoye, the suspect told investigators that he had an altercation with the lady before she fell. The man reportedly claimed that someone knocked on their door during the disagreement. He said he went to answer it and later heard a noise from the back door, only to discover that the lady had fallen.
However, the police spokesperson said the suspect’s explanation raised questions and did not fully add up.
Okoye also clarified that investigators had not confirmed the allegation that the suspect attempted to sleep with the lady before she fell.
Victim remains in critical condition
The young lady reportedly remains in a coma as doctors work to stabilise her condition. The incident has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern for the victim and calling for a thorough investigation.
Some social media users have condemned the alleged sexual advances and the reported violence, while others have urged the public to allow investigators to establish exactly what happened.
The police have yet to announce formal charges against the suspect as they continue their investigation.
