Nigerian actor and skit maker Kamo State has addressed the speculation surrounding Funke Akindele’s absence from the premiere of his debut cinema movie, Star Lomo.
Kamo State, whose real name is Akinyoola Ayoola, premiered the film in Lagos on Sunday, September 20. Several Nollywood stars attended the event, including Odunlade Adekola, Lateef Adedimeji, Mo Bimpe, Iyabo Ojo and Kiekie.
However, Funke Akindele’s absence soon became one of the major talking points from the premiere. 
Some social media users questioned why the filmmaker did not attend the event. X user first man said
“While Kamo State is premiering his movie Star Lomo in Nigeria, his screen mother Funke Akindele is in Ghana hiking.”
They pointed to Kamo’s previous involvement in her projects and the close relationship the pair have displayed publicly. Others defended Akindele and highlighted the support she has given Kamo over the years.
“Funke Akindele attended Kamo wedding in Ibadan sponsored the child naming ceremony, she even featured him in her movies even when the scenes are not need! Because she didn’t attend the premier she’s now a bad person,” X user Ugooduc said.
Her absence has prompted different reactions because Akindele is in Ghana with singer Waje, who stars in her forthcoming project, The Four.
Kamo State says there is no problem between them
As speculation about a possible disagreement grew, Kamo responded directly in a post on X. He made it clear that Akindele’s absence had nothing to do with a fallout between them.
“Please, we’re on good terms.”
Kamo explained that Akindele missed the premiere because she was outside the country. He also revealed that they had already spoken and said she would support the film.
He then asked people not to speculate about their personal relationship. Instead, he encouraged them to focus on Star Lomo, which arrives in cinemas on Friday, September 25.
His response directly contradicts claims that her absence confirmed a disagreement between them.

Why Funke Akindele’s absence attracted attention
The reaction largely comes from the relationship Kamo and Akindele have built publicly.
Kamo became more closely associated with Akindele during Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024. He took part in the film and its promotion, while their appearances together continued beyond the project.
Akindele has also featured Kamo in productions including Aiyetoro Town Season 2 and Behind The Scenes. She has promoted some of his work and supported him outside film.
Their relationship has extended to important moments in Kamo’s personal life. Akindele attended his wedding and has publicly interacted with him and his family.
However, their frequent appearances together reduced earlier this year. That change had already brought about attention from some followers before the Star Lomo premiere.
Her absence therefore gave room for speculation, particularly among people who had followed their relationship online.
Despite the online discussion, Funke Akindele has interacted with contents from the premiere.
Since the controversy started, Akindele has continued promoting her own work. Kamo, meanwhile, has redirected attention to his film.
