The live nominee announcement for the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on March 29, sparked excitement across the entertainment industry, although it did not meet the expectations of some fans.

Nigerian actress Lilian Afegbai has now reacted after missing out on a nomination. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she expressed confidence in her craft, stressing that she does not need external validation to affirm her talent.

Afegbai highlighted her performance in one of the most talked-about projects of 2025, noting that the movie trended for months and kept audiences engaged long after its release. She added that no one could ignore the impact of her character, “Idia,” whom she portrayed in the film To Kill a Monkey (TKAM).

The actress, who has earned praise for her role in the Netflix series To Kill a Monkey, stated that her performance received strong audience reactions and further proved her versatility as an actress capable of delivering powerful, emotional roles.

Afegbai also emphasised that awards do not define her professionalism or the extent of her growth in the film industry. She believes that everything happens for a reason and remains focused on her journey rather than on external recognition.
