After losing his bid for joint custody of his daughter, Imade, Davido reveals that he has decided to withdraw from the fight after the opposing lawyer allegedly mentioned his late son during proceedings. And naturally, Nigerians have opinions.
What Are People Saying About The Custody Battle?
When Davido tweeted that he had stepped back from the custody case, a lot of people responded with empathy. For many people the mention of his late son was a line the lawyer wasn’t supposed to cross but nonetheless offered encouraging words to the artist.
“I know for sure that you can be in Imade’s life without any custody talks per se. You were never married to Sophia. Please, follow this with grace & wisdom. When Imade becomes a teen, things will naturally fall in place,” one user said.
Another added, “This is quite emotional, but I understand how these things work. It’s not easy for both parties, especially not for Sophia; everyone wants a woman to let go for peace; however, this is a fight for autonomy.”
Some other Nigerians wondered why the custody of Imade had to get to the courtroom at all. According to them, not every parental disagreement needs to become a legal battle, especially when a child is involved.
“My take is Davido should leave Imade alone. She’s a child, but she’s not blind or dumb. She can see her father loves her and has fought for her. When she is of age, she can do the needful and make her own decisions. She won’t be 10 forever. It’s tiring, please,” one user tweeted.
“Emotional blackmail na matter wey suppose settle within the family; una carry am go court. What do you expect?” someone else noted.
“The way Sophia weaponises her child to score points is crazy. Custody battle for what? Can’t both parties have equal access and enjoy this child? “This man loves his kid(s), and he is a good father,” someone else added.

Reactions To Davido Calling Out The Opposing Counsel
Davido, who had earlier launched a cyberattack on the opposing lawyer identified as Ebelechukwu Enedah, also faced backlash from Nigerians for his actions.
“@Belachukwu, I disgraced you in the courtroom. I was teaching you your work; you couldn’t even take it and then went on to mention my son,” he posted.
According to many people, there was no need to tag the lawyer in a post and open up the floor for people to criticise her.
“So make we go beat the lawyer for you or what?? Lawyer wey dey do her job?? If na America you dey , you fit try all these? What are you tagging her for exactly,” someone asked.
“She finished you in court, and now you’re inciting the public against her when she was simply doing her job. Drag her in court and leave us alone; we don’t care ! We weren’t there when you and Sophie orgasmed. We are tired !!!!,” another netizen added.
Davido Mistakenly Attacking Gospel Singer Tosin Bee
However, just before Davido posted his final tweet on X clarifying for fans what really transpired, he called out gospel singer Adejumobi Oluwatosin, popularly known as Tosin Bee, on his Instagram story just after his attack on the lawyer.
In a now-deleted Instagram story, Davido reposted a tweet of the singer assuming he was the son of the lawyer.

Davido wrote, “And she has a son. Tosin, you will live long, amen, with the rubbish you dey sing.”
“So your son nah musician Bella Chukwu. You no even get sense. Make we help am. Useless people,” he added.
Many Nigerians were not in support of his action and called him out for it.
@b_akomz replied, “I told you that’s not his mom. That lawyer is 49 years. This singer will be 41 this year. He can’t possibly be 8 or 9 years older than his son.”
“Even if he’s the son of the lawyer, was he in the courtroom with them? Also, it’s painful, but emotions don’t work in the courtroom,” @charellaujah5 commented.
@officialabiodunmicheal wrote, “This is a matter of mistaken identity. He deserves a public apology. This man is a gospel musician/artist for God’s sake.”
Moments after, the singer came out to address the issue: “Hello, Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made. As a matter of fact, my mom went to be with the Lord eight years ago.

“I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this, but my prayers are with you. I love you, brother,” the artist clarified.
From Empathy to Accountability
What makes this whole situation interesting isn’t just the custody loss or even the online call-out.
Initially, many Nigerians approached the situation with sympathy. But after the Tosin Bee incident, the tone noticeably changed, at least for some people. The discussion moved from “we understand” to “this wasn’t necessary.”
Final Thoughts
We all know grief is hard and court cases are messy. Social media? Even messier.
Nonetheless, Imade is still a child. Like many Nigerians pointed out, she won’t be 10 forever. Time, they usually say, has a way of giving children clarity. When she grows older, she will be able to decide what kind of relationship she wants with each parent.
For now, maybe the most important thing is peace. Peace for everyone involved. And hopefully, Davido also finds peace with the decision he has made to withdraw from the fight.
