Afrobeats star Davido has withdrawn the custody case involving his daughter, Imade Adeleke whom he shares with Sophia Momodu.
The singer shared emotional posts on X and Instagram, explaining his position and reacting to what happened during proceedings at the Lagos State High Court.
Recall that Davido had earlier filed a suit asking the court for joint custody or unrestricted access to Imade.
In the suit marked LD/1587PMC/2024, dated April 17, 2024, the singer prayed the court for “an order granting joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke to the applicant.”
In the alternative, he sought “unfettered and unrestricted access to Miss Imade.”
He said he had always taken responsibility for her welfare, including paying her school fees and supporting her upbringing.
Now that case has been withdrawn, and this is a summary of what Davido said.

1. He never asked for full custody

Davido made it clear that he was not trying to take his daughter away from her mother. He said his goal was joint custody, not full custody.
“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody.”
This statement was meant to correct public assumptions about the case.
2. He believes nobody truly won
The singer said the legal dispute had no real winner, especially because it affected his daughter.
“Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating… there’s nothing to celebrate.”
He expressed disappointment over the fact that Sophia Momodu was praising God for the outcome of the case and treating the situation like a victory.
3. He dropped the case after his late son was mentioned

Davido revealed that he decided to withdraw the case after his deceased son was brought up during court proceedings. He described it as hurtful.
“I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was spanking that lawyer in the courtroom, all .. she would get so frustrated .. because normally I finish school. I was finishing her .. until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON ! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!”
He suggested this moment was the turning point that made him walk away from the legal fight.

He also urged everyone to move forward peacefully.
The custody battle initially drew public attention after a lawyer, Maruf Mohammed, claimed on X that Davido appeared in court in Yaba, Lagos, on Thursday and became visibly angry during cross-examination, allegedly causing tension in the courtroom.
