Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has declared that she had a privileged upbringing and only experienced financial hardship after she got married, declaring that her former husband introduced her to poverty.
Speaking about her childhood in a video making the rounds on social media, Ojo said she grew up in a wealthy family where constant electricity and financial comfort were the norm.
“I never knew anything like up NEPA and down NEPA because we always had constant electricity. My grandmother was one of the richest women of her time,” she said. 
The actress also revealed that she had access to significant financial resources from an early age. “1997, I was already ₦100,000-plus rich because I had an account opened for me at 18 where my grandfather would send me allowances,” she said.
To underscore her point, Ojo insisted that she had never experienced poverty until she got married. “To make it clear, I’ve never been broke. I’ve always been rich. The only thing I lacked was attention, and it’s because I had a weird kind of parents,” she added.
According to the actress, her financial fortunes changed after her marriage.
“I only started experiencing poverty when I got married to my ex-husband,” she said.
Ojo’s remarks have sparked conversations on social media, with many users reacting to her candid account of growing up in affluence, the emotional challenges she faced in childhood and her claim that marriage marked the beginning of her financial struggles.
The actress has previously spoken openly about the difficulties she encountered in her marriage, which ended in divorce, and how she rebuilt her life and career while raising her children as a single mother.
