The much-anticipated GOtv Boxing Night 34 Jam Festival lit up Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on Friday, December 26.

The event was a full dose of punches, passion, music, and street-level energy that can only be experienced at one of Nigeria’s biggest combat sports showcases.

Held on Boxing Day, the event combined elite local boxing with live entertainment, and although the event started slightly behind schedule, the atmosphere quickly made up for it.

This was my first time attending a boxing event, yet it was impossible not to be drawn in. From the fighters’ dramatic entrances to the roaring supporters waving banners, blowing vuvuzelas, and chanting nonstop, it felt like stepping into an entirely different world.

I couldn’t help but wonder what makes someone choose boxing as a career. Pummeling another person’s face as a sport, chasing that adrenaline rush, some mothers really do have them.

And on this night, all of that energy and anticipation would find its peak in the main event.

The night’s headline bout was the 12-round National Super Bantamweight Title clash between challenger Sodiq “Happy Boy” Adeleke and defending champion Durotimi “Tiny” Agboola.

In a tense and competitive contest, Adeleke rose to the occasion, defeating Agboola by majority decision to claim his first national title as the New National Super Bantamweight Champion.

Ijomoni delivered a commanding performance in his 8-round lightweight clash, defeating Segun “Odi” Gbobaniyi by unanimous decision.
