Ghana is about to begin construction on the Volivo Bridge, a significant infrastructure project that will be the tallest road bridge in the country.

Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Agbodza, in a conversation with (Japan International Cooperation Agency) JICA’s Head of Africa Investment, Yushi Nagano, said, “God willing, President Mahama will break ground this year for the construction of the bridge itself.”

According to the Ghanaian government, the bridge will enhance connectivity between the Volta and Oti regions, boosting the nation’s trade and economy.

Japan is known to frequently partner with African countries in the construction of roads, bridges, and modern mobility projects, and such is the case again with their collaboration with Ghana to construct the country’s tallest bridge with Japan-backed technology.

JICA will build a 540-metre cable-stayed bridge which will feature 51-metre twin towers, two traffic lanes, sidewalks, and safety railings and will surpass the length of the already existing Ghana Adomi Bridge by 200 metres, thereby making it Ghana’s tallest and longest road bridge upon completion.

Construction is expected to begin this year and will open up Ghana further to international collaborations and relationships.
