A viral social media video has sparked outrage—it allegedly shows women facing sexual assault at a local festival in Ozoro called the Uruamudhu Aluejo Festival in Delta State, Nigeria.
The incident sparked a wave of online reactions, with users using the hashtag “Stop Raping Women” to demand justice and urge authorities to act quickly.
The controversy erupted after videos and reports surfaced claiming to show women being assaulted during a traditional Delta festival.
During the Uruamudhu Aluejo Festival in Ozoro , women are not allowed to go out, if they do, men can do whatever they want with them. The nature of the allegations has sparked widespread condemnation, with many users accusing society of tolerating violence against women in the name of culture.
An X user, Moyosoreoluwa, who identifies as #sore0luwa_, expressed the collective frustration, calling out the authorities directly. “Stop raping women!!!!“

The conversation quickly turned to a familiar, but heated, debate about the tendency to deflect from the issue of sexual violence. Another social media user, ‘Tegbe!’ slammed those who often question the motives of victims when such incidents are reported.
The Delta State Police Command responded to the disturbing video by describing it as “alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing.“

In a terse statement on X, Spokesperson Bright Edafe said Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola had immediately ordered a thorough investigation.
Edafe wrote on X: “This is alarming, disgusting and embarrassing. The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident. The command condemns this in totality, no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens. Delta State Police Commissioner CP Aina Adesola calls on Deltans to stay calm. She promises to hunt down and bring to justice everyone behind this brutal act.
The command also calls for witnesses who can provide useful information that can aid the ongoing investigation.
Those who were aware about the Uruamudhu Aluejo Festival in Ozoro, Delta State. have been arrested according to Edafe tweet on X, he wrote “The community head and chief organiser of the event, one chief Omorede Sunday and four other suspects from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro have been arrested. The CP has ordered that they should be transferred to State CID with immediate effect. The CP vows that anyone involved will be arrested and brought to justice”.
And also the Delta State Government has condemned reports of women being harassed and sexually assaulted during the Ozoro Festival, calling the acts barbaric and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on March 20, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, urged security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that no cultural celebration can justify criminality.
