Forget about a bag of rice and groundnut oil; BUA gave millions and billions of naira to its staff.

During its 2025 Night of Excellence and Long Service Awards, BUA Group shared ₦30 billion to honour 510 employees, a significant initiative in the Nigerian private sector.

The event honoured staff members for their long service (5–40 years), devotion, and notable contributions. This is in line with BUA Group’s fundamental conviction that committed individuals create long-lasting companies.

Abdul Samad Rabiu, the company’s founder and executive chairman, saw the event as a chance to celebrate tenacity, loyalty, and the common dedication to the BUA journey.

BUA, which started out little 36 years ago, has grown to become one of Nigeria’s most important publicly traded corporations with a market capitalisation in the trillions of naira. The founder stressed that this accomplishment was the outcome of a group’s growth rather than the work of a single person, a single board, or just money.

According to Rabiu, “Every factory built, every system strengthened, every challenge overcome, and every milestone reached carries the imprint of employees who believed in the vision long before the results were visible.

How Was The Money Shared?

Sixteen recipients received ₦100 million; nine recipients received ₦200 million; seven recipients got ₦250 million; three recipients got ₦500 million; five recipients got ₦1 billion; and one special recipient whose award amount was undisclosed. Other awardees had either previously received their plaques and cheques or will collect them at their respective operational locations.

Rabiu emphasised that the awards serve as a token of appreciation, asserting that no monetary value could encapsulate the decades of dedication, personal sacrifice, and faith in the company’s mission.

While many companies are giving 13th salaries and Christmas hampers, BUA threw it out the back. Such bonuses and profit sharing are an excellent way to motivate employees and make the work environment delightful.
