AMVCA:  An Event That Puts The Audience First

AMVCA brings the audience from behind the screens to live participation.

The curtain has fallen and the show is over, but we will not get over how AMVCA is a true audience-first show.

From the first to the last day of Africa’s biggest film awards show, the Africa Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), viewers get seen more.

The Day 3 of the AMVCA12 was pure magic. The Cultural Day was the kind that reminds you why being African hits different.

As usual the AMVCA Cultural Day wasn’t your regular red carpet affair where celebrities shine and everyone else just watches from the sidelines. The organisers threw the doors wide open and made the audience feel like the real stars of the show.

From the jump, every year, it’s clear the event was designed with us in mind. It’s not a  “sit-down-and-clap-only” vibes. Viewers at home and those who showed up physically were properly welcomed into the celebration.

The energy was electric because the people — the real MVPs — were not just present, they were fully part of it. We were dancing, laughing, taking pictures, eating, networking, and soaking in every bit of culture and creativity. On the AMVCA12 Cultural Day, the audience didn’t watch the party. They were the party.

The sponsors understood the assignment too. Don Julio kept the drinks flowing, MTN powered the good vibes too. Lush added that fresh touch, Interswitch made everything seamless, while Indomie and Onga made sure nobody left hungry. Their booths turned into lively interaction zones — not just for branding, but for real experiences. You could grab food, snap fire content for the gram, enjoy the performances, and feel like you truly belonged there.

What stood out even more than the stunning fashion (and trust me, the Ankara, beads, geles, and modern traditional fusions were on another level) was the sense of inclusion. They didn’t stop at just making the viewers make their choice through online voting.

Young people, regular fans, creatives, and movie lovers were all mixed in with the big stars. Different countries, different tribes, different styles — yet one big, happy African family. The celebrities slayed, no doubt, but many in the audience seemed to enjoy it even more. At the AMVCA12 Cultural Day, laughter was louder, the conversations more genuine, and the joy felt shared. It was giving real community.

This is the heart we crave in big African events. AMVCA shows that film and culture don’t belong only to the elite or the award winners— it belongs to all of us. By putting the audience at the centre, they’ve created something warmer, more authentic, and deeply community-driven.

AMVCA always nails it. This level of audience inclusion is what we love to see again and again. Africa is watching. Africa is showing up. And this time, Africa was fully invited to the table.

We’re already excited for the next one!
