Aliko Dangote Reveals His Real Legacy

Enioluwa Adeoye asked Dangote, Africa’s richest man, whether he considered the Dangote Refinery his legacy and whether the massive project represented the final stage of his career.

Enioluwa asked:

“A lot of people would consider this refinery as your legacy and truly it’s an edifice, would you consider it your legacy? A lot of people would also think this is the final stop, or is there still something else for you?”

Dangote responded:

“This refinery is not my legacy at all. My legacy is actually industrialising Africa. So I think I have a lot of couple of years of hard work to make sure that yes we are industrialised.”

‘You Have to First Believe in Yourself’ – Dangote

Enioluwa also asked Dangote how young people could find the strength to pursue their dreams despite the challenges they might face.

Dangote said

“Many years ago before I even got this big, if anyone comes to my office they would see a sign where it says nothing his impossible. So you have to first believe in yourself that ‘I can do it’ then the rest are secondary”.

Dangote stressed the importance of self-belief and explained that his belief in what he could achieve helped shape his journey.

Dangote Shares How He Started From Scratch

Dangote also explained that he keeps his life simple and avoids living a pompous lifestyle. He said he had experienced significant wealth from a young age and once owned almost 27 cars and had his first private jet before he turned 23.

However, Dangote said those experiences did not change his belief that people could achieve success regardless of where they started.

He explained that he lost his father when he was eight years old. Although his grandfather had wealth, Dangote said he started his own business from scratch.

He began his business journey by dealing in cement and collecting trucks of cement before building the business empire he has today.

Why Dangote Warns Young Africans Against Spending Future Wealth

Dangote said he sometimes visits universities to encourage young people to believe in themselves and pursue their ambitions.

He said young Africans should avoid spending money they have not yet made. According to him, some people create plans around future earnings before they establish a solid business.

Dangote explained that a young person might say:

“Fine I’m a content creator. I’ll be making 10 million dollars every year.”

He said that they will start spending the money before building the business that would generate it.

He urged young people to focus on building something solid before spending money they expect to make in the future.

The richest man in Africa emphasised that determination and self-belief can help people pursue seemingly impossible goals. Dangote’s journey, from starting a cement business from scratch to building one of Africa’s largest industrial enterprises, remains an example of the importance of believing in what one can achieve.
