Nigerian skit maker and content creator Broda Shaggi, whose real name is Samuel Perry, has opened up about the terrifying incident that kept him away from social media for months.

The entertainer recalled how a stray bullet struck him on March 9, 2026, leaving him fearing for his life. He described the experience as one of the most frightening moments he had ever faced.

A Routine Brand Activation Turns Into a Nightmare

Broda Shaggi said the day began normally with a brand activation. However, everything changed after he and his team finished the event and drove along an expressway.

Their vehicle encountered traffic caused by a crowd. Suddenly, he heard a loud bang, followed by an eerie silence. Although he could see people outside the car moving and talking, he could not hear them.

He touched his hip and noticed blood. That was when he realised a stray bullet had hit him.

Prayers, Blood Loss and a Desperate Fight to Survive

The incident left Broda Shaggi convinced he might not survive. He lost consciousness and could not remember arriving at the hospital.

However, he recalled praying throughout the journey to the first hospital, where medical staff administered first aid. They tried to cut away his clothes to locate the wound. Seeing the injury left him deeply distressed.

At that moment, he had only one thought: he needed to survive because he did not want to die. The first hospital lacked the equipment needed to treat him adequately, so medical staff transferred him to another facility. As he watched the blood and held his leg, he desperately wanted reassurance.

“All I wanted was for a nurse to tell me, ‘Samuel, you will be fine. You won’t die,’” he recalled.

At the second hospital, doctors acted swiftly and began treating his wound. Their efforts helped calm him, and he started believing he would survive. However, the relief did not last. Minutes later, he realised he could not move his leg. The fear returned as he considered how the injury might change his life.

Broda Shaggi said he grew up dancing, singing and playing drums with his father. Unable to move his leg, he began wondering how he would rebuild his life.

Broda Shaggi: Waking Up After Surgery and Questioning God

When Broda Shaggi woke up the day after surgery, the pain had reduced but had not disappeared. He said the experience triggered a flood of emotions and left him questioning why it had happened to him. He admitted that he questioned God repeatedly before gradually finding another way to view the situation.

According to him, he had barely rested since 2018. When he was not writing, he was creating content. When he was not filming, he was making music or travelling for work.

He eventually consoled himself with the thought that perhaps the incident had forced him to take the rest he had long neglected.

Broda Shaggi: Watching Colleagues Work While Fearing He Would Be Forgotten

His recovery also brought emotional challenges. Broda Shaggi said watching his colleagues release content sometimes made him laugh, but on other days, it brought him to tears.

He feared he might never regain the ability to work as they did. He also worried that fans would forget him before he recovered.

Despite those fears, he expressed hope that his audience still remembered him. He also maintained his belief that God would not forsake him.

Travelling to Dubai for Hip Replacement Surgery

Broda Shaggi later travelled to Dubai for hip replacement surgery, hoping to regain his fitness and return to normal life.

He said he left Nigeria feeling hopeful that something positive would come from the trip. However, he remained anxious about whether the doctors would consider him ready for the procedure. He explained that his doctor in Nigeria had advised against operating because his “markers” had not yet settled.

In Dubai, the surgeon agreed that the markers remained unsettled but said he could proceed based on his assessment. The decision brought Broda Shaggi considerable relief. He recalled that the doctor also told him he would be able to walk on the second day after surgery.

Nevertheless, Broda Shaggi said he prayed again because he had always viewed surgery as a matter of life and death. He left the outcome in God’s hands.

Life on Crutches and Gratitude for a Second Chance

Despite the ordeal, Broda Shaggi remains grateful to be alive. He acknowledged that the bullet could have struck his head or another vital organ, with potentially fatal consequences. However, his recovery remains incomplete, and he still relies on crutches for support.

He said he initially needed two crutches to walk. He can now stand and take steps without them, although he continues to use them for balance and support.

For Broda Shaggi, surviving the shooting has brought a new reality. While he continues to recover, he remains thankful that the incident did not end his life.
