Public interest and human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has confirmed that Air Peace has compensated him and other affected passengers following the aborted Lagos-Enugu flight scheduled for Monday, 21 September 2026.
Effiong disclosed the development in a post on X. He stated that the airline contacted him via email and approved a 25 per cent discount on a one-way ticket across any of its domestic routes.
Air Peace Offers 25% Discount
According to him, Air Peace offered the discount as compensation for the Lagos-Enugu flight, which was scheduled to depart at 6:45 a.m. but did not operate as planned. 
“I received an email from @flyairpeace this morning informing me that the company ‘has approved a 25 per cent discounted one-way ticket (exclusive of tax)’ on any of their domestic routes ‘as compensation’ for the aborted Lagos-Enugu flight, which was scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2026 by 6:45 AM,” he wrote.
Compensation Follows NCAA Directive
Effiong said the airline appeared to have acted in compliance with a directive issued by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) after he publicly criticised the incident.
“This offer is apparently in compliance with the directive issued to the airline by the @NigeriaCAA after my public statement on Monday, which directed the airline to compensate me and other aggrieved passengers,” he added.
Effiong Raises Concerns Over Air Peace Service
While acknowledging the airline’s gesture, Effiong maintained that the compensation does not address what he described as Air Peace’s longstanding service challenges.
“This modest effort by Air Peace to assuage me and other aggrieved passengers should not detract from the fundamental issue, namely: the perennial lacklustre, arrogant and frustrating attitude of the company,” he stated.
He argued that the disruption reflected a wider pattern within the airline’s operations rather than an isolated incident.
“This wasn’t an isolated occurrence. Flight cancellation and delay have been normalised by Air Peace,” he said.

Lawyer Cites 71% Flight Delays
Effiong also cited NCAA data, which he claimed showed that 71 per cent of the airline’s domestic flights experienced delays in August 2026.
“Official data from NCAA shows that 71 per cent of their local flights were delayed in August 2026 alone. That is outrageous,” he wrote.
He urged Air Peace to improve its services and respect the rights of passengers.
“Air Peace should realise that it can no longer continue to operate with impunity,” he said.
Effiong Commends NCAA Response
Effiong, however, commended NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu and the aviation regulator for their swift response to the matter.
“While the swift response of @mikeachimugu01 and NCAA in this case are commendable, there is no doubt that we need a stiffer and stronger regulatory framework in the aviation industry to protect the rights of air passengers.
“We will continue to hold Air Peace and other airlines accountable.”
Effiong Calls For Stronger Passenger Protection
Effiong said he would continue to demand accountability from Air Peace and other airlines while calling for stronger measures to protect passengers’ rights.
He also urged the aviation authorities to ensure that airlines respect passengers and provide better services when disruptions occur.
