Conversations about flight delays became louder last week after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) released its August 2026 flight disruption report. Air Peace, however, seems to be at the very center of this conversation.
According to the airline regulator, 4,765 out of 7,961 domestic flights operated in August were delayed. The number of cancelled flights was 36, meaning that for every 10 domestic flights, six experienced a delay.
Air Peace was among the airlines under strict scrutiny. It had 1,330 delays out of 1,864 flights. United Nigeria Airlines also recorded 943 delays out of 1231 flights. 
Although both airlines disputed the figures reported by the regulator and questioned the way it classified controllable and uncontrollable delays, Nigerians have regularly shared their frustrating experiences with the airlines publicly.
The Four Major Airline Call-Outs in 2026
Ordinary passengers have long complained about extended delays, last-minute cancellations, and inadequate support when things go wrong.
However, celebrity voices amplify the issue. Below are the major celebrity call-outs of airlines so far in 2026
1. Bolaji Ogunmola – United Nigeria Airlines
After repeated delays and an eventual cancellation of her flight to Lagos, Bolaji Ogunmola was stranded in Ekiti for more than 24 hours in January.
The filmmaker and producer made an emotional video stating that it was the first day of production for her film TOC, into which she had already invested between N15 million and N20 million.
Her videos from the airport forced the airline to issue a public apology, citing unscheduled aircraft maintenance.
2. Tacha – Air Peace
In April, Natacha Akide had arrived early at the airport for a 6.00 am flight to Abuja from Lagos, only to wait for six hours without boarding.
Due to the delay, the former BBNaija housemate missed preparations for best friend Cross’s wedding. In a fiery video, she called the airline “wicked and heartless,” accused it of knowingly selling tickets without fuel, and urged people to boycott.
3. Funke Akindele – Air Peace
At London’s Gatwick Airport in May, Funke Akindele and other passengers, including elderly travellers, spent nearly 10 hours stranded after a bird-strike delay on a London-Lagos flight.
Akindele publicly criticised the lack of clear communication by the airline, its refusal to release luggage, and the failure to provide the promised hotel accommodation. Air Peace later attributed the disruption to safety protocols following the bird strike.
4. Inibehe Effiong- Air Peace
Popular human rights lawyer and activist, Inibehe Effiong publicly criticised Air Peace after his early morning flight from Lagos to Enugu was delayed till evening.
The call-out on Monday, September 21, went viral, with the lawyer explaining that the delay caused him to miss a scheduled court appearance in Enugu.
