After learning about the horrific shooting at a two-year-old’s birthday celebration in Stockton, California, last weekend, Grammy Award-winning Afrobeats singer, Burna Boy, is now offering to pay the funeral expenses for all four of the victims.
A 14-year-old young football player died alongside an eight-year-old, a nine-year-old, and a 21-year-old during the incident while 11 people were injured.
Burna Boy allegedly heard about the shooting from the popular radio podcast “The Breakfast Club” and instantly reached out to one of the hosts, Wack 100, who, in turn, linked him with Hollywood Unlocked’s Jason Lee. Lee is also the Vice Mayor of his hometown of Stockton.
“I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.” Burna Boy told ABC 10.
PR Move or Genuine Concern?

While a very touching gesture, Burna Boy has been facing a tough time online after he sent out a fan who was sleeping at his concert. She later posted that she was suffering from a bereavement and was taken out in an attempt to cheer her up.
He stood by his actions, stating he did no wrong, but netizens were not pleased; they said Burna Boy has a history of treating fans poorly. This has led to poor ticket sales for his upcoming shows, with a few allegedly being cancelled.

In the midst of the brewing controversy, many influencers were also accused of posting puff-pieces about him online. Therefore, one wonders if this is truly a compassionate gesture, or simply a PR move. Either way, the families of the deceased children will be grateful for the support.
