A Port Harcourt-based car hire service, Elite Car Rentals, has been publicly accused of cancelling a confirmed vehicle booking on the morning of a wedding and failing to refund the payment.
Joshua Sampson Egop, a media and strategic communications professional, stated that he booked a Toyota Prado through Diepreye Ebiekemiete, known online as Preye who operates Elite Car Rentals in Port Harcourt.
According to Egop in the post on X account, the booking was made on Monday, July 27, 2026, for his niece’s wedding scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026. The agreed fee was ₦110,000 for the day, with the client responsible for fuel. Payment was made in full on Wednesday, July 29. An official transaction receipt shows the transfer of ₦110,000 to Diepreye Ebiekemiete, with the remark “Prado hire.” All required booking details were shared with the operator by Thursday, July 30.

On the morning of the wedding, at approximately 6:22 a.m., Egop received a call from the operator that was disconnected.
When he followed up via text, he was informed that the client who had the car had rebooked the same Prado for that day and that no alternative vehicle was available. Then he offered a refund.
Egop said he was forced to secure another Prado at short notice and paid double the original price because it was needed at short notice. As of the time of his public statement on August 4, 2026, the refund had not been received. He alleged that the operator cited network issues, continued posting on social media, and later stopped responding to messages and calls.
Egop, who said he had never met the operator of Elite Car Rentals in person but had seen him with a mutual friend who previously used the service, described the incident as the first time he had been compelled to issue a public call-out.

He appealed to anyone familiar with Diepreye Ebiekemiete to urge him to resolve the matter, stating that he intends to recover the full amount, including additional costs and related stress, through legal means upon his return to Port Harcourt.
The operator had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report. However, comments from a few people suggest that it is not his first time doing such.
