Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker and Galatasaray forward, has said that education remains important to him despite his success in football.
The Nigerian international explained that football careers do not last forever, which is why he wants to prepare for life after retirement. Although he is now one of Africa’s highest-paid footballers and has transformed his family’s financial situation, Osimhen still hopes to return to school and earn a degree.

He said he also wants to inspire young people by showing them that they can return to education even if life challenges force them to drop out.
Osimhen described leaving school as one of the riskiest decisions of his life. Growing up in Lagos, he faced financial hardship with his family. His sisters worked hard to pay his school fees, but the family’s difficult circumstances pushed him to make a life-changing decision.
He dropped out of Senior Secondary School Three (SSS 3) to focus fully on football. At the time, he believed a professional football career would help him support his family and improve their lives. While that decision eventually paid off, he stressed that he does not encourage others to follow the same path.

Speaking in an Instablog TV interview, Osimhen said:
“I’d love to go back to school and earn a degree because football only lasts 20–25 years. I already have investments, but I want to prove that you can drop out, become successful, and still return to school to complete your education.”
He also expressed gratitude for his success and the blessings he has received.
“My family can drive any car they want. These are the most important things for me. I don’t need to be super rich; I just need to be comfortable. I’m grateful to God because He has given me that in abundance,” he said.
Osimhen’s story exemplifies the strength of determination, sacrifice, and perseverance. While football brought him fame and financial success, he still values education and personal growth. He hopes that by returning to school, he can inspire young people to finish their education and prepare for life after they leave their careers. His journey demonstrates that success can open doors, but learning is a lifelong pursuit.
