Oluwatosin Michael Eniolorunda is the CEO and co-founder of Moniepoint Inc.

He was born in September 1985 in Lagos, Nigeria. His dad, Rotimi Eniolorunda, worked as an engineering contractor, and his mom, Ajoke Eniolorunda, was a teacher.

Eniolorunda is the oldest of three kids, with roots in Ondo State, but grew up mostly in Ibadan, Oyo State. He attended the University of Ibadan Staff School and Command Day School in Ibadan. Later, he studied mechanical engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), graduating in 2007. He also attended Lagos Business School to sharpen his business skills.

Growing up in a middle-income home, toys weren’t always easy to get, so young Tosin would create his own. That “maker” mindset stuck with him.

He had plans of going into hardware, but knowing about China being a giant in that sector, he chose to do software instead.

Tosin Eniolorunda’s Work Experience

After school, Eniolorunda joined Interswitch in 2009 as a software engineer. He rose quickly to become a senior software manager, unit head, and product manager. Eniolorunda even helped build the first point-of-sale (POS) software that many Nigerian businesses still use today.

The Moniepoint Dream

Eniolorunda had bigger dreams. In 2015, he left his stable job and co-founded TeamApt with Felix Ike and a few others. They started small, using their own money and building software for banks.

In 2017, their major client, Sterling Bank, sent an email notifying them that their services were no longer needed. The company later rebranded to Moniepoint and became a full digital banking and payments platform for businesses.

Moniepoint now powers payments for millions of small businesses across Nigeria and beyond. In fact, 8 out of 10 offline transactions are made on the Moniepoint app. It processes billions of dollars in transactions, offers banking tools, credit, and more.

Moniepoint has been called one of Africa’s fastest-growing fintechs and has raised funding from big global investors. Under Eniolorunda’s leadership, it’s helping “financial happiness” for everyday entrepreneurs who traditional banks often ignore.

Eniolorunda is obsessed with real impact. He talks a lot about solving hard problems for African businesses. Eniolorunda was featured on the cover of Forbes Africa (August–September 2021), highlighting his role in shaping Africa’s fintech landscape. On the 100 Most Influential Africans (2022), he was named among the 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2022.

He’s also vocal about challenges like talent and education in Nigeria. Recently, he shared how his company struggles to fill tech roles with candidates who meet global standards, pointing to issues like social media distractions and weak systems.
Instead of just complaining, he pushes for better human capital development.

On the personal side, Tosin keeps things private but values family deeply. He’s married with kids and has a foundation, the Tosin Eniolorunda Foundation, focused on empowering students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and young business owners.
