The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), during the May edition of the monthly Holy Ghost Service, gave the congregation some relationship advice.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, popularly known as Daddy G.O, told his daughters that he understood the behaviour and tactics of “bad boys” because he had lived that kind of life before becoming born again. This implied that his past experiences make him more cautious and protective when advising them about relationships.
“Don’t marry a brother whose tongue is too sweet. I hope my daughters are listening?” he said.

The cleric, who is known to always tell true life stories while he preached, shared with the congregation:
“I will tell you a story. You know I was a bad boy before I became born again. Something happened, and I only understood after I became born again. There was this very beautiful lady, and I was making some plans and said, “Hello, lady,” and she smiled, of course. And the next thing was “Oh, your teeth are as white as snow.” So she smiled further. “And then looking at your eyes is like taking a look at a full moon…and your skin is as polished ebony.” All of a sudden, she did something strange. She turned around and began to run,” he said as the congregation roared in laughter.
“When brother comes and begins to talk about your body is like that of a catfish in water, run!” he added.
Amongst his advice was a warning to ‘his sons’ not to marry because of beauty.
“If you marry because of beauty, you might choose a demon.”
Adeboye also advised them not to marry a girl who cannot cook, giving Sarah and the Shunamite woman as examples.
“Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook. We’re talking of excellent counsel; only me can tell you these things. If she can’t cook, even if a prophet says this is your wife, tell him, “Thank you, keep her.” Because if she can’t cook, if she can’t be hospitable, then you are heading for trouble,” he said.
“The Bible made it clear that your wife must be someone who is intelligent and hospitable. When you get home, read 1st Samuel 25 from verse 2 to 42,” he added.
Daddy G.O also warned them to try as much as possible to marry from the “family of faith” and not marry heavily made-up girls.
Although he said, “I don’t want to be popular, I want my boys to end up well,” this sermon has gained popularity. Many, like the Bishops under the aegis of the Ecumenical Synods of Bishops, Archbishops, Apostles and Senior Clergy, have disagreed with Daddy G.O’s advice not to marry a girl that cannot cook.
The International Secretary of the Bishops, Archbishop Osazee William, disagreed with Adeboye’s stance.
Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, William said, “Is it scriptural for a man not to marry a woman who cannot cook? Even men can cook.”
He added that his remarks were not meant to oppose the revered cleric, describing Adeboye’s statement as a personal opinion rather than a biblical standard.
