Prominent Nigerian business leader and trailblazer Mrs Ibukun Awosika recently resigned from the board of Cadbury Nigeria Plc. Her resignation took effect on May 1, 2026, after more than 16 years of dedicated service.

In a recent statement, the respected entrepreneur explained her decision in simple, honest words. “Two weeks ago, I resigned from the board of Cadbury. I had been on the board for 16 years and 7 months. I thought to myself, it’s been long enough. “I’m going,” she said. As a publicly quoted company, Cadbury informed the market about the change as required by law.

Awosika added that she is refreshing her board portfolio and had already left another board this year. “Let me take on new challenges as I choose by myself,” she stated. She also added that she was surprised by the strong public reaction; however, she made it clear that there was no drama.

“They didn’t do anything to me. I left because I felt I had spent a long time there, and it was time to go,” Awosika clarified.

Born in Ibadan in 1962, Ibukun Awosika is one of Nigeria’s most inspiring women. She studied chemistry at the University of Ife (now OAU) and built a successful business career. She founded The Chair Centre Group, a leading furniture company, and made history as the first female chairperson of First Bank of Nigeria. She is also an author, motivational speaker, and strong advocate for women’s leadership.
