The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), has risen to as high as ₦1,040 per litre in Lagos and ₦1,080 per litre in Abuja, following fresh adjustments by fuel marketers.

A review of prices at retail outlets operated by NNPC also shows similar price levels across several states.

The new petrol prices recorded at some NNPC filling stations include:

Lagos: ₦1,050 per litre

Ogun: ₦1,051 per litre

Abuja (FCT): ₦1,081 per litre

Bayelsa– ₦1,085 per litre

The figures highlight how petrol prices have climbed above the ₦1,000 mark in many parts of the country, with slight differences depending on location and distribution costs.

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners have warned that it may reached ₦2,000. Dangote has also sent trucks parked in front of his refinery away.

Global Oil Market Pressure

The latest hike also comes amid growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have affected global crude oil prices.

On Friday, crude oil prices climbed to about $91 per barrel as tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran continued to escalate across the region.

Higher crude oil prices often translate into increased costs for refined petroleum products, which can influence fuel prices in markets such as Nigeria.

Impact on Nigerians

Rising petrol prices typically have ripple effects across the economy, particularly for transportation, logistics and small businesses that depend heavily on fuel.

Commercial transport operators and small business owners are often among the first to feel the impact whenever pump prices rise, as fuel accounts for a large share of their operating costs.
