What the Spotlight Initiative is About
The Spotlight Initiative is the UN’s flagship program focused on eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls. The initiative was launched in 2017 with seed funding from the European Union.
It aims at strengthening laws and policies made against female gender-based violence, changing harmful social norms, and improving services for survivors.
The Spotlight Initiative also supports civil society and women’s movements.
It operates in different regions including Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Pacific, where it tackles issues such as sexual and gender-based violence, femicide, trafficking, child marriage, and harmful practices. As part of the Tiwa Savage UN partnership, the singer recently travelled to Malawi.
