As tensions over undocumented migrants continue to grow in South Africa, traditional leaders have stepped forward to seek a peaceful solution. With protests spreading across parts of the country and concerns mounting over anti-immigrant sentiment, AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and AmaMpondo King Ndamase have embarked on a high-level diplomatic mission to Zimbabwe aimed at easing tensions and promoting regional cooperation.
Anti-immigrant groups in South Africa recently set an unofficial deadline for undocumented foreigners to leave the country, a move that triggered widespread protests and heightened public debate over migration.
AmaZulu King Misuzulu and AmaMpondo King Ndamase are leading the diplomatic trip to Zimbabwe in search of a collaborative regional solution to the migration crisis.
The two monarchs believe that traditional communities across Southern Africa share deep historical and ancestral ties that existed long before modern national borders. They argue that current migration disputes should not undermine these longstanding relationships.
Inkosi Malusi Zondi, the AmaZulu King’s representative and royal envoy, highlighted the importance of the mission and the discussions ahead.

According to a report by Independent Online (IOL), one of South Africa’s leading digital news platforms, Zondi said: “I cannot divulge the agenda of the meeting before it takes place; however, I can assure the public that the issue of illegal immigration is on the agenda.”
The South African government has also taken steps to reduce tensions and protect vulnerable communities amid the growing unrest.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has repeatedly stressed that only the state has the authority to enforce immigration laws. He has strongly condemned vigilante groups and denounced anti-foreigner sentiment.
To prevent violence, Ramaphosa directed national security agencies to remain on high alert during public demonstrations. He also launched diplomatic initiatives, including sending special envoys to neighbouring African countries to strengthen regional cooperation and address the underlying causes of irregular migration.

Before departing for Zimbabwe, King Misuzulu and King Ndamase met with President Ramaphosa to align their efforts and discuss possible solutions.
During their planned talks with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the royal leaders intend to propose a regional summit in Victoria Falls.
The proposed summit will focus on developing a coordinated approach to migration, protecting minority communities, and turning regional migration into an economic opportunity rather than a source of conflict.
