Raenest, a Nigerian fintech platform that enables freelancers and businesses to receive international payments, has faced criticism after several users reported that the company deactivated their accounts, blocked access to their funds, and delayed its customer support responses.

Many users have taken to X to share their experiences with the platform. Several customers shared that Raenest suspended their accounts without providing clear reasons, leaving them unable to access their funds. One user, VIC, expressed frustration on X, accusing Raenest of preventing him from withdrawing his money. He said he had been unable to access his funds for five days despite raising complaints with the company. Another user, ProvyDon1, criticised the fintech firm and urged it to complete all necessary verification checks before allowing customers to receive payments through the platform.

He wrote: “Raenest, before you go around advertising or allowing people receive money on your platform, do all your verification first. Don’t deceive people and allow people’s money into your hands and then abruptly lock accounts in the name of verification. It’s because you guys haven’t met someone with strong hand yet, else they would have sued you all and you pay for damages because this behaviour is unacceptable.”

One of the complaints that gained attention came from X user @davidthefunnel, who explained that his brother lost access to both his account and funds after Raenest deactivated the account. In a post on X, he claimed that his brother, @FeranmiF95240, had approximately $9,700 in his Raenest account. According to him, his brother checked the account on the morning of June 24 and found the funds intact. When he logged in again in the early hours of June 25, the account had been deactivated and the funds were no longer accessible.

He said his brother submitted all the documents requested by Raenest and repeatedly contacted the company through email, direct messages, and replies on X. He noted that the company only sent automated responses and failed to provide a direct explanation regarding the account restriction or the status of the funds.

Similarly, Catherine_CSSX voiced her frustration over a prolonged review of funds paid into her Raenest account.

She wrote: “Dear @RaenestApp, what did we really do wrong by choosing you as a means of receiving payment? Part of my salary was paid into my Raenest £ account and it’s still under review till now. Why exactly? I submitted everything last month to show you people that I actually work for this company, yet you keep treating me like a thief. Whenever my money comes in, I have to start dragging and calling you people out before I get my money. What is the actual problem? Jeezz, this is becoming so frustrating. Please release my money. What if all my salary was paid in at once? This is an unhealthy relationship.”

Responding to one of the viral complaints, Raenest CEO Victor Alade told Technext that the company identified the issue during a routine compliance review and has since resolved it.

According to Technext, Alade said: “Yes, we’re aware of the issue, and we have now resolved it. The user’s account underwent a compliance review. Several compliance-related factors can lead us to temporarily restrict an account while we complete these checks. We prioritise keeping our customers secure while maintaining regulatory compliance.”

Alade also acknowledged recent delays in customer support responses. “At the moment, we are experiencing an increase in our support response times. The team is working hard to improve response times, and we apologise to our users for the delays in support and issue resolution,” he said.

The complaints have generated conversations about transparency, compliance procedures, and customer service standards within Nigeria’s fintech sector. While Raenest maintains that compliance reviews help protect users and meet regulatory requirements, affected customers continue to call for faster communication and quicker resolutions whenever account restrictions occur.
