‘Givers never lack’ is a principle deeply rooted in faith. In the Bible, Proverbs 11:25 states, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed”.

Similarly, the Qur’an in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:261) teaches that those who give in charity will have their reward multiplied many times over.

As a religious nation, Nigeria has embraced this mandate wholeheartedly, as generosity sits at the centre of both Christian and Islamic practice.

As a result, giving is not treated as an occasional act of kindness but as a moral responsibility.

Nigerians grew up believing helping others attracts blessings. That belief explains why many people willingly give their widow’s mite to the countless GoFundMe campaigns that appear on social media, even when the beneficiaries are complete strangers they may never meet.

So it’s no surprise that this act of kindness has gotten global recognition.
