American YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed (Darren Watkins Jr.), popularly known as Speed, celebrates his 21st birthday in Nigeria.
He also hits 50 million subscribers on YouTube on his birthday in Nigeria. He’s the first ever black content creator to achieve this goal on the platform.
The YouTuber embarked on a 28-day tour of Africa on December 29th and has since then been to South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Algeria, and currently Nigeria.

Touring the African continent stemmed from a desire to showcase to the world the cultures and rich heritage of Africans. In all the countries he has visited so far in Africa, he makes it a point to stream all the beautiful and rich diversity that’s not often seen by the world.

Currently in Lagos, Nigeria, Speed has linked up with popular media personalities like the Egungun of Lagos and TikToker Jarvis. He has also been seen on a call with top Nigerian musician Davido during a live stream and took pictures with Tiwa Savage’s son, Jamil Balogun. In addition, he has participated in Nigerian dance routines, embracing the country’s vibrant entertainment culture.
He also drove around Nigeria and hailed the people from his car’s roof, whilst, unlike in other African countries, he was asked for money – which many Nigerians found to be very cringe.
Additionally, during one of his live streams, Speed drew attention to Lagos’ infrastructure challenges after experiencing a power outage in the area he was driving through.
Speed turning 21 and achieving all that he has in his life proves that all it takes is to start, and every other thing will fall in line.
