Ghanaian visual artist Sharon Dede “Padiki” Padi has made history as the first Ghanaian to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest leaf-print painting.

She completed the massive 54.33 square meter artwork in Accra on 11 July 2025, using only leaf prints to recreate the Ghanaian national flag. The piece boldly showcases Ghana’s culture, identity, and artistic confidence on the global stage.

Padiki has consistently pushed creative boundaries. In March 2024, she attempted a 168-hour nonstop painting marathon to set another world record. Even though she didn’t clinch the world title, the attempt drew huge attention locally and internationally and reinforced her reputation for resilience.

She began her journey toward this new record in December 2024 with an experimental 39 square meter leaf-print painting at the National Museum. She then refined her techniques and expanded her vision, leading to the final record-breaking artwork at the National Theatre in Accra.

After her achievement was confirmed, Padiki said her goal was bigger than the title itself.

“This record is a platform to project Ghanaian art and culture to the world. Through this work, I hope to inspire young artists in Ghana and across Africa to pursue creativity, innovation, and excellence.”

She went on to say that each leaf print symbolizes Ghana’s connection to nature, creativity, and resilience and serves as a celebration of culture, identity, and national pride.

The red, gold, green, and black star echo the country’s long-standing symbols of struggle, wealth, growth, and unity.
