Nigerian music star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, and Soso Soberekon, an entertainment executive and philanthropist, have unveiled a scholarship scheme to support 500 Niger Delta students in tertiary institutions.
The Scholarship Scheme for 500 Students
The announcement was made in January 2026, and the programme was unveiled after the Benikrukru Christmas Carnival in Delta State. Organised in association with Soso Soberekon and Dr.(Mrs.) Esther Mathew Tonlagha of the EMT Foundation. Its aim is to convert the energy of a major entertainment event into lasting educational support.
The scholarship scheme’s theme is “From Carnival to Classroom.” It focuses on students already enrolled in tertiary institutions who struggle to pay school fees.
By easing this financial pressure, the organisers hope to prevent talented young people from dropping out and to open clearer pathways to academic success.

Similar Initiatives by Burna Boy and Soso Soberekon
This is not the first time Burna Boy and Soso Soberekon have supported education or community projects in the Niger Delta.
Burna Boy has reportedly funded a N250 million secondary school and clinic project in Rivers State. The development includes classroom blocks, a clinic, library facilities, and other amenities, and was under the supervision of social media activist VeryDarkMan.
In 2024, he also gifted N10 million to students at the University of Port Harcourt to help settle outstanding fees. He has further partnered with The Reach Foundation on community outreach that reached over 300 beneficiaries in Okarki.
Soso Soberekon has also previously launched a School Fees Empowerment Initiative that covered tuition for 23 students — one from each local government area of Rivers State.
The transparent selection process and focus on higher-institution learners reflect his consistent interest in scholarships, talent development, and grassroots empowerment.
This is the first major public collaboration between Burna Boy and Soso Soberekon (along with EMT Foundation) focused on education and youth empowerment.
