What’s Going On With Warner Bros. and Multichoice Now?

MultiChoice says talks with Warner Bros. Discovery are still in progress and separate from the mergers and takeover battles happening abroad.

In the middle of these negotiations, Netflix announced a massive $82.7B takeover of Warner Bros., including HBO. The deal still needs approval but is expected to wrap up in 2026.

According to people familiar with the matter, they said to Bloomberg; “No final decision has been made regarding the future availability of those channels, and renewal discussions remain a normal part of industry practice.”

Warner Bros. Discovery spoke to veteran broadcasting journalist Thinus Ferreira acknowledging the concern and distress viewers may have concerning the discontinuation of some channels.

“This situation arises because we have not yet reached a mutual agreement with MultiChoice to continue broadcasting our much-loved brands,” it said.

However, they assured viewers that it is “unequivocally committed to finding a resolution.”

According to a source cited by Bloomberg, the channel carriage talks are on hold because to a discrepancy between what Canal+ Africa is willing to pay and what Warner Bros wants to be paid.

If negotiations falls through, Canal+ plans to merge everything from DStv, DStv Stream, GOtv and Showmax into one super app with African content, global movies, sports, and European titles.

DStv through it’s spokespersons have said they would provide, “strong alternative channels across every genre. What matters most is ensuring that your viewing experience remains rich, diverse, and enjoyable.”

However, losing Warner Bros. and HBO would still be a major blow.
