From sold-out stadiums in the United States to historic performances in Paris and an appearance at the Grammy Awards, Burna Boy has continued to take Afrobeats to some of the world’s biggest platforms.
The Grammy-winning singer, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has built an international career that extends beyond streaming numbers and chart positions. Through live performances, major music events and international touring records, he has helped bring Afrobeats and African music to audiences across continents.
Here are five major moments that demonstrate Burna Boy’s growing presence on the global stage.
1. Madison Square Garden, New York, 2022
Burna Boy made history in April 2022 when he headlined and sold out Madison Square Garden in New York City with his One Night in Space concert.
The achievement made him the first African artist to headline and sell out the iconic venue, which has hosted some of the biggest names in international entertainment.
For Afrobeats, the concert represented a significant moment. Burna Boy was not simply appearing as a guest at an international event; he was the main attraction, drawing a large audience to experience his music.
The show demonstrated the growing demand for African artists outside the continent and established a benchmark for subsequent African acts seeking to headline major international venues.
2. Citi Field, New York, 2023
In July 2023, Burna Boy raised the bar again when he performed at Citi Field in New York.
The concert drew approximately 41,800 fans, making him the first African artist to sell out a US stadium, according to reports on his touring milestones.
The performance was another indication that his audience had grown beyond the clubs and concert halls where African artists had traditionally built their international following.
A stadium show of this scale requires more than a popular record. It demands a substantial audience, extensive production and the ability to sustain a live performance for thousands of fans.
For Burna Boy, Citi Field reinforced the commercial potential of Afrobeats in the American market.

3. The Grammy Awards, 2024
Burna Boy took Afrobeats to one of the music industry’s most recognisable global platforms when he performed at the 66th Grammy Awards in February 2024.
He delivered a medley featuring songs including On Form, City Boys and Sittin’ on Top of the World. American singer Brandy and rapper 21 Savage joined him for the latter performance.
The appearance made Burna Boy the first African artist to perform on the main Grammy Awards telecast.
The significance extended beyond the performance itself. The Grammys attract international attention from music professionals, artists and audiences, giving African music another opportunity to occupy a prominent place in global entertainment.
Burna Boy’s appearance also followed his 2021 Grammy win for Twice as Tall, which received the award for Best Global Music Album.
4. Stade de France, Paris, 2025
On April 18, 2025, Burna Boy became the first African artist to headline a concert at Stade de France in Paris.
The sold-out performance attracted more than 80,000 people, according to reports, making it one of the biggest milestones of his touring career.
The show also featured appearances by other artists, including Fireboy DML, Shallipopi, Joé Dwèt Filé and Dadju, highlighting the connections Burna Boy has developed across different music markets.
Stade de France is one of Europe’s most prominent stadium venues. Headlining it placed a Nigerian artist before a massive French audience and further demonstrated Afrobeats’ ability to command attention beyond its home market.
It was another major step in Burna Boy’s progression from an internationally recognised recording artist to a stadium-level performer.
5. NFL Paris Game, Stade de France, 2026
Burna Boy’s international reach extended into American football when the NFL announced him as the halftime headliner for its Paris game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints on October 25, 2026.
The game took place at Stade de France, the same venue where he had made history with his 2025 concert.
The NFL’s international games combine professional American football with live entertainment, reaching audiences beyond the league’s traditional US market. Burna Boy’s selection placed an African music star at the center of a major international sporting event.
It also illustrated how his career has expanded beyond conventional music venues. From stadium concerts to globally recognised award ceremonies and major sporting events, he continues to bring African music into spaces with substantial international visibility.
Burna Boy’s Global Journey
Burna Boy’s journey through Madison Square Garden, Citi Field, the Grammy Awards, Stade de France and the NFL’s Paris game demonstrates the different ways an African artist can build an international presence.
Each milestone represents a different kind of achievement: selling out major venues, attracting international audiences, earning recognition from the music industry and performing at events that bring together people from different parts of the world.
His career is part of a wider movement that has seen Afrobeats gain increasing visibility across international music markets.
For Burna Boy, taking Afrobeats to the global stage is no longer limited to getting his songs played abroad. It also means headlining the venues, appearing on the platforms and performing at the events where global audiences gather.
