Nigerian gospel singer, trumpeter, and pastor Nathaniel Bassey’s official YouTube channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, has crossed the 1 billion views mark, making him the first African gospel artist to reach the milestone.
As of November 2, the channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, sat at more than 1.014 billion views and approximately 5.24 million subscribers. It was created on March 4, 2011; hence, the achievement is the result of more than 15 years of consistent worship music, live sessions, and ministry content.

How Hallelujah Challenge Helped Drive Nathaniel Bassey Main

The landmark arrived during and right after the October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, the global midnight prayer and worship movement Bassey founded in June 2017.
The Hallelujah Challenge began as a simple Instagram Live from his living room and has grown into an international Christian movement. Believers from different countries join the sessions (usually starting at midnight Nigerian time) for praise, worship, and prayer.
The October 2026 edition delivered a clear surge. Its opening session on October 5 attracted over 4 million views, while the grand finale (Hallelujah Festival) on October 30 surpassed 4.3 million.
The Hallelujah Challenge content and other broadcasts like music releases have been major engines behind the channel’s growth.
Bassey has repeatedly said the Challenge is about worship and spiritual devotion, not revenue. He has resisted pressure to heavily monetise the prayer sessions, stating he has not received divine instruction to do so.
The Music Behind Nathaniel Bassey’s YouTube Numbers
Beyond the Challenge, Bassey’s catalogue of worship songs has powered the view count.
Standout tracks and videos include:
- “Adonai” – 60 million views
- Hallelujah Challenge Praise Medley – 58 million views
- “See What the Lord Has Done” – 57 million views
- “Yahweh Sabaoth” – 56 million views
- “Tobechukwu (Praise God)” with Mercy Chinwo – 49 million views
- “Jesus lye” – 47 million views
- “Ebenezer” with Victoria Orenze – 40 million views
These songs and others like “Imela” and “Olowogbogboro”, combined with the Hallelujah Challenge content, built a loyal audience.
Nathaniel Bassey reaching 1 billion views on his YouTube channel is rare territory for any African gospel act. It places Bassey among a very small group of Nigerian channels that have crossed the mark (secular artists like Burna Boy reached it earlier).
