Andre Onana and his family have reportedly escaped unhurt after the Manchester United goalkeeper was involved in a multi-vehicle road accident in Turkey, shortly after Trabzonspor’s victory over Scottish side Hearts in the UEFA Conference League.
The incident occurred on Thursday, October 22, as the Cameroon international was reportedly driving home following Trabzonspor’s 2-0 win. According to reports from Turkish media, another vehicle struck the car driven by Andre Onana from behind, sending it into a vehicle ahead and triggering a chain collision.
Fortunately, the 30-year-old goalkeeper and his family are reportedly in good health following the incident. Reuters also reported that Trabzonspor officials went to the scene to check on the player, while club president Ertuğrul Doğan confirmed that Onana was in good condition.
How Andre Onana’s car crash reportedly happened
The accident took place in the Yomra district of Trabzon, northern Turkey, after Onana left the stadium to return home.
Reports indicate that a vehicle approaching from behind collided with the goalkeeper’s car. The impact reportedly pushed his vehicle forward into another car, leaving several vehicles involved in the incident.
Although the circumstances surrounding the collision are still emerging, reports have not indicated that Onana or his family sustained injuries.
The news brought understandable concern among football supporters, particularly given that the accident happened just hours after the goalkeeper had featured in an important European fixture.
Some reports have suggested that Onana was taken to hospital for medical checks. However, the central reassurance from the available reporting is that the goalkeeper and his family escaped the incident without reported injuries.

Andre Onana had just helped Trabzonspor secure victory
Before the accident, Andre Onana had been between the posts as Trabzonspor defeated Hearts 2-0 in their UEFA Conference League encounter on Thursday. The victory gave the Turkish side a positive result in European competition, with Onana keeping a clean sheet before the frightening incident on his journey home.
The goalkeeper is currently playing for Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United, having moved to the Turkish club in 2025 in search of regular playing time.
His performances in Turkey have kept him in the spotlight as he seeks to maintain his form and strengthen his position following a challenging spell at Old Trafford.
The timing of the accident, coming after a successful evening on the pitch, made the news particularly unsettling for supporters of both clubs.
What the accident means for Andre Onana
For now, the most important development is that Andre Onana and his family have reportedly come through the crash safely.
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan’s reported reassurance about the goalkeeper’s condition has also helped ease concerns surrounding the incident.
However, it remains unclear whether the accident will affect Onana’s availability for Trabzonspor’s upcoming fixtures. Any decision about his participation would depend on his condition and the club’s assessment.
Neither the precise circumstances of the crash nor the extent of damage to the vehicles should be treated as settled beyond what has been reported by local media.
For a goalkeeper whose job requires sharp concentration and physical readiness, even an incident without reported injuries may warrant appropriate checks before returning to action.
For now, supporters will be relieved that the reported outcome could have been far worse, with Onana and his family said to be safe after the collision.
