Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has suffered a groin injury. This could disrupt his commitments to his club and the national team.

Galatasaray confirmed the injury after medical examinations at Acıbadem Hospital. The Turkish champions revealed that Osimhen sustained a moderate-to-advanced strain in his right adductor muscle group. Teammate Mario Lemina suffered a similar injury and has also started treatment.

The development comes at a crucial stage of the season for Galatasaray. It could affect Osimhen’s availability for Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

How Osimhen Got Injured

Osimhen, who had opened the scoring, got injured during Galatasaray’s 3-2 win over Istanbul Başakşehir. The Nigerian striker left the pitch in the 33rd minute. He reportedly felt discomfort and could not continue the match.

Galatasaray subsequently sent both Osimhen and Lemina for further medical examinations. The club confirmed the findings in an official health report.

“Advanced-moderate level strain has been detected in the right adductor muscle group,” Galatasaray said.

The club also confirmed bleeding alongside the muscle strain. Lemina received the same diagnosis after undergoing examinations. Both players have now begun their respective treatment programmes.

However, Galatasaray is yet to provide a definite recovery timeline. Osimhen remains one of the club’s most important attacking players. Therefore, his absence could prove costly across domestic and European competitions.

Injury Could Sideline Victor Osimhen for Three Matches

According to a report from Turkish outlet Le Marca Sports, Osimhen could miss Galatasaray’s next three matches. The reported absence includes a UEFA Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon. He could also miss league fixtures against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.

However, Galatasaray has not officially confirmed the three-match timeframe. The club has only said that treatment remains ongoing. A groin strain can require several weeks of recovery, depending on its severity.

Therefore, Osimhen now faces a race against time to regain full fitness. The timing could prove particularly frustrating for the striker. He had started the campaign strongly before the latest setback.

Super Eagles Face Fresh Osimhen Concern

The injury could also create concerns for Nigeria’s national team as the Super Eagles are preparing for their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.

Nigeria are scheduled to face Madagascar on September 25. Four days later, the Super Eagles will meet Guinea-Bissau.

Osimhen’s availability for those fixtures could depend on his recovery progress. A prolonged absence would leave Nigeria considering alternative attacking options.

The striker remains a key figure in Nigeria’s plans. Therefore, supporters will closely follow updates from Galatasaray. For now, however, there is no confirmed date for his return.

Until then, Osimhen faces a period of rehabilitation and careful monitoring.
