Ghana’s afrobeat artist Shatta Wale has broken his silence on the long-standing fallout with Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.
In an episode on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta gave his side of the story for the first time in detail.
According to the Shatta Movement leader, Burna Boy is the only Nigerian artist who ever called him personally when he was coming to Ghana, asking him to pick him up at the airport. Shatta said he had never done that for any other Nigerian artist. 
He claimed he treated Burna like family during the roughly one-and-a-half years he spent in Ghana. Shatta Wale claimed he provided accommodation, cars, and whatever else was needed so Burna wouldn’t have to spend heavily while in the country. Shatta even said Mama Burna treated him like her son, and he, his mother.

What Shatta Wale Believes Caused The Rift
Shatta explained that he sacked a group of boys from his team because they were not delivering. He alleged that the boys he sacked went around calling important people in his life and spreading lies that he was sleeping with their wives or girlfriends.
One of those lies, according to Shatta, reached Burna Boy:
“That’s what they told Burna Boy – that I was f**king his girl that he brought to Ghana… and he just bought it.”
Shatta insisted the claim was completely false.

He said he tried to explain but Burna stopped taking his calls. He even reached out through Burna’s mother, but the African giant had already shut him out.
“It hurts me that he didn’t listen to me to explain that this was what the boys were doing,” Shatta said. “He’s my brother. I can’t do that to his girlfriend. I don’t know your girlfriend.”
He added that he has no personal beef with Burna and even expressed happiness at the heights he has reached, saying he thanks God for Burna’s success.
Before the 2020s, when Burna Boy wasn’t as big, they were close. They even collaborated musically in early 2017. Shatta Wale released a song “Hosanna” featuring Burna Boy, with a music video.
In early January 2022 fans noticed something strange. The pair went back and forth in an intense social media feud that lasted for days and was widely covered. It began with Shatta’s comments about Nigerian support for Ghanaian music. Burna Boy’s responses escalated it, there were freestyle challenges, and personal digs, and then it quietened down with almost no resolution.
