South African superstar Tyla opened up about singing her country’s national anthem at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a candid interview on Big Boy TV, Tyla kept it real about the mix of pride and pressure that came with the big moment on the global stage.
“I performed the national anthem at the World Cup. It was so heartwarming,” she shared. “When I got the offer, I was honestly like, ‘No, no, like, it felt too big, like it’s the World Cup.” 
She admitted that performing any national anthem is no easy task, especially after watching others deliver powerful renditions.

“Singing the national anthem is not that easy, so I was very nervous about it. And at first I was like, I don’t think so, I don’t think I’m ready.”
Yet Tyla showed up anyway. As she walked onto that massive field in front of thousands in the stands and millions watching worldwide, reality hit hard.
“That’s the biggest thing that I’ve done in terms of the amount of people seeing it; the fact that it’s the World Cup, it was such a huge opportunity to be given so early in my career,” she reflected.
“When I was walking up there, I was like, please don’t faint, don’t faint.”
She described it as a surreal feeling.
