For many Nigerians, owning a laptop or smartphone isn’t just a matter of desire; it depends on whether they can afford to pay outright. The Federal Government is now addressing this issue directly.
A new credit scheme has been introduced that enables eligible Nigerians to purchase digital devices (laptops, smartphones, and tablets) and pay in instalments rather than in a single payment. The programme is called C.L.I.C.K.D, which stands for Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices.
It is managed jointly by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, known as CREDICORP, and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
What the Programme Is
Instead of requiring Nigerians to pay the full cost of a device at the point of purchase, C.L.I.C.K.D provides credit that spreads the payment over time. The scheme was officially launched in Abuja this week.
The first phase focuses specifically on locally assembled laptops, a move the government says aims to support Nigerian manufacturers. The initial pilot involves 1,000 laptops, with priority given to participants in the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent programme, commonly known as 3MTT.

According to CREDICORP Chief Executive Uzoma Nwagba, the rollout has already started. Seventy-seven people in Abuja have received laptops, with remaining devices to be distributed to qualified applicants in other states in batches.
The C.L.I.C.K.D portal also features other tech training programmes including Andela, ALX, HNG, AltSchool, Learn2Earn, and Genesys Tech Hub, although CREDICORP has yet to confirm if members of these programmes will be included in this initial phase.
One significant gap in the information currently available information concerns the financial structure of the scheme. CREDICORP is yet to disclose details regarding interest rates, repayment durations, or whether a down payment is required. Such information will be crucial for applicants assessing whether the scheme suits their circumstances.

Who Can Apply
The scheme is open to Nigerians across different employment and income levels. The application form allows for workers, freelancers, students, business owners, job seekers, and NYSC members. Monthly income is an optional field, so applicants are not required to meet a minimum earnings threshold to register interest.
