Ivorian rapper Didi B’s latest achievement was previously believed to be impossible for French-speaking (francophone) African artists or in the English- (anglophone) dominated Nigerian market.

His hit single, ‘Good Vibes’, featuring Nigeria’s own Zinoleesky, has officially received a Gold Certification from TurnTable Charts (the RIAA equivalent in Nigeria).

Nigerian artists usually dominate the top songs of many African countries and not the other way around. Nigeria is difficult for non-English-speaking artists to “break” into, which means for Didi B to go gold in Nigeria signifies a shift.

Didi B didn’t just feature a Nigerian artist; he respected the sounds and vibes of Lagos while maintaining his Ivorian identity. The success of ‘Good Vibes’ proves that the “Francophone vs. Anglophone” divide is crumbling.

Who is Didi B?

Bassa Zéréhoué Diyilem, known as Didi B, has pursued a music career since childhood, first appearing in a ‘Meiway’ music video at the age of three.

Didi B co-founded the rap group Kiff No Beat in 2009 and they were the first to sign with Universal Music Africa.

In 2013, he released his solo debut album, ‘Mojo Trone Vol. 1’, while remaining with the group.

By 2021, he had secured partnerships with brands like Fresh Pressea, Johnnie Walker, and Budweiser and signed with the Ivorian label Coast to Coast, making him the only Ivorian artist associated with the French label 9.2i.

In 2022, Didi B announced his solo album ‘Mojotrône II: History’, which had over 50 million streams and over 5,000 CD sales, achieving a Gold Certification from BURIDA, Dream Makers, and the Association of Music Producers (APRODEMCI).

In April 2025, Didi B released ‘Genius’, a 21-track double album blending hip-hop, trap, and Afro-urban sounds, reflecting a mix of Ivorian traditions and contemporary global influences.

On May 3, 2025, he made history by being the first Ivorian urban artist to perform at Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, attracting over 30,000 fans

Didi has won over 21 awards, including AFRIMA’s Song of the Year Award for “Tala” in 2023 and the Trace Award for Best French-Speaking Artist in 2023.
