Africa Magic Airs Olu Jacobs Documentary as Nollywood Remembers Veteran Actor
Africa Magic has begun airing a documentary celebrating the life and career of late veteran actor Olu Jacobs.
Titled “Doyen of Nollywood: Celebrating Olu Jacobs,” the documentary brings together colleagues and industry figures who worked with the celebrated actor. They share personal reflections on his career and lasting influence on Nigerian theatre, television and film.
Industry Icons Reflect on Olu Jacobs’ Legacy
The documentary features contributions from Joke Silva, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett and Patience Ozokwor. Kate Henshaw, Afolabi Adesanya and Jahman Anikulapo also share their memories and perspectives. Their contributions offer an intimate look at Jacobs’ professional journey and the impact he made on generations of performers. 
Olu Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, aged 84, following a career that spanned theatre, television and film.
For decades, he became one of Nigeria’s most recognisable actors. His performances also helped strengthen the reputation of professional acting in the country.
Africa Magic Schedules Multiple Broadcasts
Africa Magic premiered the documentary on its Showcase channel on Friday, September 25. Another broadcast was scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at 10:30 pm. Further broadcasts are also scheduled for September 28 and 30.
The documentary comes as Nollywood continues to mourn one of its respected veterans. His death has sparked tributes from colleagues, industry figures and audiences who followed his work across several decades.
However, the documentary offers more than a collection of tributes. It allows those who knew and worked with Jacobs to revisit his career through their own experiences.

Remembering the Man Behind the Roles
“Doyen of Nollywood” focuses on the professional legacy behind Jacobs’ most memorable characters. It explores the discipline, craft and influence colleagues associate with his career.
His story also raises a wider question about preserving Nollywood’s history and recognising the generation that helped build the industry. As Nigerian film continues to gain international attention, preserving its heritage remains increasingly important.
For an actor whose career crossed theatre, television and film, remembering Olu Jacobs also means remembering Nollywood’s foundations.
Family Announces His Burial Arrangement
NBG Africa earlier reported that Olu Jacobs’ family announced his burial arrangements following his death at the age of 84.
According to the funeral announcement released by the family, a Night of Tributes will hold on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Glover Memorial Hall, Marina Road, Lagos Island. The event will begin at 4:00 pm. Guests expected to dress in shades of blue.
The funeral service will follow on Friday, October 2, 2026, at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The service will begin at 10:00 am. All shades of green was picked as the dress code by the family.
