Imagine the Lord speaking to you about your husband’s Canadian visa being granted, after being separated from him for two years.
That is exactly what is playing out in Nwanorue’s marriage.
Ezinne Maryjane Nwanorue claimed that the Lord said the only way he can get a visa to Canada is if he swears an oath. 
Nwanorue who has been in Canada, separated from her husband, for two years wrote on her Facebook page what she described as a direct instruction from God:
“Before my husband can be given a visa to Canada, he must make a video confessing and post on Facebook and his WhatsApp status that if he comes to Canada and cheats on me, his wife, Ezinne Maryjane Nwanorue, he will die, in the name of Jesus. And he will remain faithful to me, his wife, and be a good husband to me, his wife, and be a good father to our children”
“This is the only way God can give him a visa to come to Canada, thus said the Lord !!!” she added.

Mr Nwanorue’s Oath
In a move that quickly went viral, her husband, Franklin Chimaobim Nwanorue recorded a video complying with the request. Beyond the words, one can hear love, remorse, and a deep desire for reconciliation after apparent past pain.
“As directed by God… I don’t want you to be hurt any longer. I want peace in your life, I want peace in my marriage.”
“If I ever come to Canada and cheat on you, let me die in the name of Jesus Christ. You have been staying two good years without me and the children… Anything that hurt you in the past, please forgive… I will never divorce you. All I care for is you and my children. I so much love you.”
The video portrayed a man fighting for his family, acknowledging past pain, and promising a fresh start.
In many African and Christian communities, people often turn to God (and prophets) during big life decisions like marriage, jobs, or moving abroad. So when Nwanorue framed this as “Thus said the Lord,” it might make some sense to some. Public oaths and prophetic declarations are not uncommon in Nigeria. However, from her husband’s video it sounded deeper than just a divine instruction.
Instead of the “Lord” speaking it looks like trauma speaking, Nwanorue might be using faith to create the security she desperately needs after being hurt before.
When trust has been broken either through infidelity, abandonment fears, or other issues, it’s natural for the hurt partner to seek iron-clad reassurance. Framing it as “God said” can sometimes be a way to make those demands feel non-negotiable and spiritually backed.

Mrs Nwanorue’s Side of the Oath
What many didn’t initially realize is that Ezinne didn’t just ask for a one-sided promise. She also recorded and shared her own part of the oath, making it mutual:
“This is me confessing to my husband, Franklin Chimaobim Nwanorue, that I will remain sexually faithful to him, and if l become unfaithful, let me DIE, in the name of Jesus. I also confess to remain a good wife to him and a good mother to our children… Help us, oh Lord, to make a positive impact for Christ in the world and to be a good example to other marriages… SO HELP US, LORD.”
She explained it was to put her husband at rest, show seriousness, and document their commitment publicly after hearing troubling stories about relationships affected by migration.
The story has exploded across social media. Whether it’s a divine instruction or trauma speaking, this highlights how vulnerable relationships become when stretched across continents.
