Tems has been trending recently for saying she is a “Jesus baby”. At the British Fashion Awards, she was asked backstage what her star sign is—you know, Gemini, Capricorn, and that sort of thing based on your birth month. However, she wrinkled her nose and replied that her star sign is “peace, joy and love” and that she is a “Jesus baby”.
This sent some people into a frenzy, especially those who believe in star signs. Others felt it was not a big deal, but has Tems always made this ‘Jesus’ baby claim?
Has Tems Always Claimed To Be a Jesus Baby?
1. Her ‘Me & U’ Music Video
In that music video, she was wearing white, and many initially alluded to her being like the Osun priestess Yemọja, who wears white. Tems promptly refuted those claims. In a tweet, she said, 
“Actually, it’s about Jesus Christ teaching me how to walk on water, to trust Him and not in human understanding.
He changed my life. And if you seek Him, He will fill you up too. He is the Lord of Lords. The Word of God, made flesh. I am His sheep. He is my Shepherd. And I have been forever transformed. I am His forever. THAT’S JUST ME THOUGH.”

2. Her Reply to a Fan’s Question
When a fan on X (or Twitter, for those who have refused the name change) asked what kept her going before the fame and spotlight on days she almost gave up, she replied, “Oh baby, honestly, I leaned on God a lot.”
3. Constant Tweets about God
On 5 January 2024, she tweeted, “Celebrating all my wins this year, doing my little dance for everything—big, small, up and down. Because Jesus has done so much for my life. All glory to the Most High.” (Note: Her manager, Don Awon, also often tweets about God and Jesus.)
On September 2023, she tweeted, “Nothing like learning to trust God’s way.” Early that year, in February, she tweeted, “What God has done for me, I can’t even speak. All the glory really belongs to Him.” As far back as 2019, she tweeted, “God is beyond Amazing, Keep Him close”
You get my drift. She talks about God a whole lot.
4. Her Conversation with Apple Music
While having a conversation with Apple Music about the inspiration behind the ‘Me & U’ track, she explained that it was about a conversation with God:
“I just went into a trance, and I was having a conversation with God about… I’m not sure what it was; I was just in a trance, and I didn’t remember what I had done until I recorded it, but it really was just about the conversation surrounding commitment and faith. I think when you create anything, period, you’re tapping into something spiritual because you’re creating something from nothing.”

5. Refusing to Mention Her Zodiac Sign
Many Christians believe that Zodiac signs are demonic and not in accordance with the Christian faith. By choosing to talk about Jesus rather than claim a star sign, that’s the ultimate “Jesus baby” move.

But is Tems really a “Jesus baby”?
The next question is whether she can truly be a “Jesus baby” if she sings secular music, drinks alcohol, and socialises with the likes of Jay-Z and Beyoncé, people often alleged to belong to the Illuminati and Freemason cults.
Is she being hypocritical? In a 2022 tweet, she cleared the air by saying she is not a model for Christianity:
“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but I am not your Christian saviour. I didn’t come here to uphold your beliefs about God. I will not fit into this box you try to put me in. I won’t satisfy you in that area; please find the person that will. Or ask yourself why you care.”

Well, here’s what I think, faith has been and will continue to be a matter of personal conviction, and people are allowed to have their beliefs. She doesn’t need to sing gospel music to be a Jesus baby.
