Nigerian singer Spyro has challenged Christian leaders nationwide to break their silence and confront the country’s worsening security crisis.
The artist argued that religious leaders should do more than simply post passive messages on social media. Instead, he urged them to intentionally use their massive platforms and influential voices to address the rising cases of kidnappings and killings in Nigeria.
The call to action stems from a recent, gruesome incident in Ogbomoso, Oyo State involving abducted students and teachers. Videos showing one of the teachers beheaded by the kidnappers have left the singer deeply shaken.
“I can’t sleep; I keep seeing the videos in my dreams, and you are saying I shouldn’t talk because I must honour pastors,” Spyro admitted, shutting down critics who accused him of disrespecting the clergy. He clarified that his intentions are not to insult, but to push spiritual leaders to speak boldly for everyday Nigerians who hang onto their words weekly.
“I am speaking to all pastors in Nigeria. Everyone should be talking about the insecurity in the country,” he declared. “If you are not speaking up, something is wrong. It means you are part of the system. It means you are an oppressor.”

Spryo warned, “When comfort becomes the reason they are not concerned, it means they can easily fly out of the country if Nigeria is collapsing.”
While adding that he has always publicly defended the church, the singer believes now is the time to tell religious leaders the hard truth. In his view, any pastor who refuses to speak out against the situation is indirectly enabling oppression.
“If you are not speaking up, something is wrong. It means you are part of the system. It means you are an oppressor,” he said.
Spyro also urged Nigerians to tag their respective pastors on social media to encourage them to confront the current state of the nation. He suggested that some leaders might feel unconcerned simply because they possess the financial means to abandon Nigeria if things completely deteriorate.
“When comfort becomes the reason they are not concerned, it means they can easily fly out of the country if Nigeria is collapsing,” he noted.
The singer went on to question what would happen if bandits targeted a church, asking whether congregations would still continue with normal activities if such incidents became commonplace. He insisted that ministers of God must use their leverage to condemn insecurity and demand immediate accountability from the government.
“Why is nobody saying anything? Why are they all silent?” he asked, expressing his deep disappointment that so many influential spiritual leaders have chosen to remain quiet despite the worsening security situation.
Furthermore, Spyro pointed out that if the child of a prominent pastor were kidnapped, many churches would immediately organise emergency prayer sessions and raise widespread awareness online until they regained freedom.
