The incident turned what should have been a solemn farewell into an emotionally charged scene.

As the video spread widely, many people began to ask what could have made the young boy so angry that he reacted that way.

Footage from Asiwaju TV, one of the media outlets that covered the burial, later showed that a phone call came in shortly before the outburst.

Omije Ojumi’s Alleged Husband Called

Mourners dressed in white gathered at Atan Cemetery, Yaba, Lagos, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, to lay Omije Ojumi to rest.

An attendee, believed to be alleged husband’s sister, suddenly announced that the children had a phone call from a man claiming to be their biological father.

In the video, the man said he wanted to pay his last respects to the late singer and speak with the children.

He introduced himself as their father and alleged that Omije Ojumi had denied him access to them for years.

The children did not take the phone, so the husband’s sister put the phone on loudspeaker for them to listen.

During the call, the man said he had tried several times to reach the children while they were growing up.

He claimed he once contacted the daughter through her school and that Omije Ojumi later involved the police after discovering the contact.

As the call continued, many mourners looked visibly uncomfortable, with some questioning why such a sensitive matter was raised during a burial.

The situation escalated when Omije Ojumi’s daughter broke down in tears, while the woman continued trying to speak to her about her father.

Her brother, who had been watching everything unfold, struggled to contain his emotions, and eventually, he couldn’t hold back any longer.

He openly denied the man as his father, shouting what sounded like, “I am not!!!.”

In the background, a woman could be heard saying, “We love you” and “Your father loves you,” as people moved the boy away from the scene.

Some reports alleged that the father abandoned the family and failed to show care during their mother’s long illness and struggles.

And by calling on the day of the burial, he provoked an already grieving child.

Reports also state that the late singer raised her children alone, carrying the full responsibility of their upbringing without support.

During the service of songs held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in Lagos, Omije Ojumi’s first daughter, Jomiloju, shared how her mother single-handedly raised them after their father left.

She described her deceased mother as a hardworking woman who pushed through hardship and illness to ensure her children grew into responsible adults.

The phone call and the children’s reactions have since sparked heated debate online.

Some Nigerians condemned the timing of the call as insensitive and inappropriate, while others sympathised with the children.

It was clear that they were unfairly caught up in a long-standing family conflict during a moment of grief.
